The Story
My name is Mickel. I was born and raised on Roatán — 21 years on this island. I started working in tourism at 16, juggling school and a job in 2021 while classes were still online and cruise ships had just started returning to the island.
My first job was at an animal sanctuary, and that's where I fell in love with tourism. I fell in love with people coming to the place I lived — telling them about the island, how I grew up here, how I was raised here — and watching that burst of curiosity and excitement on their faces when I explained what life on a tropical island actually looks like. People came from every corner of the world to see my corner of the world. That meant everything to me.
Eventually school got overwhelming and I had to leave that job. But I didn't leave tourism. I found work with another company, this time meeting people coming straight off cruise ships — busloads of thirty people, thirty different backgrounds, taking them all around the island. I absolutely loved it.
That's what led me here. That's what led me to build ROC. I wanted people to have easy access to the island — to skip the big corporations, skip the hassle, and actually connect with the locals who tell the real story of Roatán. The people who live it. If you want an authentic experience, you have to talk to someone authentic. That's why this exists.
